Acceleration waves in various types of elastic subfluids, the general forms of the propagation conditions, and the speeds of principal waves can be found in previous literatures [e.g. \textit{T. Tokuoka} and \textit{H. Kusunoki}, ibid. 79, 175-187 (1982; Zbl 0498.76005)], leading to the conclusion that the elastic subfluids possess both solid-like and fluid- like qualities. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to derive some general results from which the previously known results can be derived and which include, in the same time, both propagation conditions and amplitude equations, and also the orthotropicity of the materials. However, the paper has mixed up (instead of the seperate presentations) the theories and the illustrations, and as a result, it becomes difficult to ascertain whether a particular conclusion is valid for the general case or its particular case only. The paper will be useful to those interested in continuum mechanics.
