    Let \(\Omega\) be the exterior domain of the unit disk in \({\mathbb{R}}^ 2\), and let \(a_{i,j}(z) (i,j=1,2,i\leq j)\) be bounded, measurable and real valued functions defined in \(\Omega\). Moreover we assume that \(a_{i,j}(z)\) satisfy \(0<\alpha_ 1\leq a_{1,1}(z)\cos^ 2\theta +2a_{1,2}(z)\cos \theta \sin \theta +a_{2,2}(z)\sin^ 2\theta<\alpha_ 2\) for some positive constants \(\alpha_ 1\) and \(\alpha_ 2\), where \(z=x+iy\), \(| z| \geq 1\) and 0\(\leq \theta \leq 2\pi\). Then we consider the exterior boundary value problem \[ Lu(z)=a_{1,1}(z)u_{xx}(z)+2a_{1,2}(z)u_{xy}(z)+a_{2,2}(z)u_{yy }(z)=f(z),\quad u(z)=0,\quad z\in \partial \Omega. \] In this paper, assuming that \(| a_{i,j}(z)-\delta_{i,j}| \leq \psi(| z|)\) for a decreasing function \(\psi\) (t) on \([1,\infty)\) the author investigates the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the above Dirichlet problem. The main result (Theorem 3.3) of the paper is the following: if \(\psi(t)=t^{-\beta}\) with \(\beta>0\) and f(z) satisfies \(\sup R^ q\int^{\infty}_{R}r[ess \sup f(z)]^ 2dr<\infty\), \(R\geq 1\), \(| z| =r\) for some \(q\in(2,4)\), then there exists a unique solution in \(V(\Omega\),q), which is the space of functions defined in the introduction.
