The author proves several theorems and lemmata concerning the Riemann problem for media with arbitrary state equation. The main results are the theorem on uniqueness of solution for the Riemann problem on the disintegration of an arbitrary discontinuity and the theorem on existence and uniqueness of the adiabatic wave curve. Moreover there are shown some properties of Hugoniot adiabatic curve - H, Poisson adiabatic curve - P, wave adiabatic curve - W, and so-called curves R. The paper will be of interest to researchers in the fields of fluid and gasdynamics and propagation of shock waves.
