In this paper charging of a low-conductivity liquid flowing through a cylindrical metallic pipe with allowance for the finite rate of surface electrochemical reaction, due to ions of a contaminating impurity dissolved in the liquid, is studied. It is shown that in the initial section of the pipe, a kinetic regime exists and far from the initial section there is a diffusion regime. The rate of the charging process depends on the supply of ions in the surface of the pipe. The current is a function of the velocity of the liquid and tends to a limiting value which depends only on the rate of surface reaction. The theory is confirmed by experiments on the charging of hexane flowing through small- diameter pipes. The current is observed to be saturated in the experiments.
