The author considers an indefinite metric analogue of the well-known submersion of a sphere into a complex projective space. The space corresponding to the sphere is the anti-de Sitter space \(H_ 1^{2n+1}=\{(x_ 0,y_ 0,...,x_ n,y_ n)| -x_ 0^ 2-y_ 0^ 2+x_ 1^ 2+...+y_ n^ 2=-1\},\) and corresponding to the complex projective space is the complex hyperbolic space \({\mathbb{C}}H^ n\). The main result of the paper is: If \(\pi\) : \(H_ 1^ k\to B^ j\) is an indefinite Riemannian submersion from anti-de Sitter space to a Riemannian manifold with totally geodesic fibers, then \(k=2n+1\), \(j=2n\), and \(B^{2n}\) is holomorphically isometric to \({\mathbb{C}}H^ n\), where \(B^ j\) is equipped with an integrable almost complex structure induced from the submersion. The corresponding result for the complex projective space was proved by \textit{R. H. Escobales} [J. Differ. Geom. 10, 253-276 (1975; Zbl 0301.53024)].
