The author investigates the stability of bubble-liquid and sedimentation processes in the presence of an electric field. It is assumed that the permittivities of the phases are constant and furthermore that there is no mass transfer between them, and that the viscosity and compressibility of the liquid and the deformations of the dispersed particles can be ignored. It seems to be that in the absence of an electric field the regime of uniform ascent of bubbles or particles is unstable. It is shown that an electric field directed along the motion of the bubbles helps to stabilize the bubble-liquid processes. In an electric field directed at an angle to the vertical, the regime of uniform ascent of particles or bubbles is unstable. The given results are not compared with exprimental data.
