In this paper, the author gives, for any positive integer n, an example of a smooth Jordan curve C in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) such that the smallest integral current bounded by C has less than n/k times the area of the smallest integral current bounded by kC \((1\leq k<n).\) For this curve it is also shown that 1/n times the area of the smallest integral current bounded by nC is the area of the smallest normal current bounded by C. This example provides a generalization by a different technique, of an example, in the case \(n=2\), due to \textit{L. C. Young} [Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 12, 257-274 (1964; Zbl 0161.318)]. While Young used the non-orientability of the Klein bottle to produce his example, the author exploits symmetry. Another example of the same phenomenon, by a technique which generalizes Young's technique, has been given by \textit{B. White} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 90, 230-232 (1984; Zbl 0529.49023)]. As a lemma, the author proves that the support of a one dimensional minimizing normal current bounded by a finite set of points is contained in the closure of the union of the supports of all minimizing integral currents with the same boundary; a result which is of interest in its own right.
