With the applications to tokamak plasma heating in mind, the authors write the kinetic equation for fast ion distribution function with Landau collision operator. For small values of fast ion densities this becomes a linear partial differential equation for a six variable function. The authors reduce the number of variables to three for high toroidal fields by averaging with respect to fast quasiperiodic/Larmor and poloidal/motions. The resulting Fokker-Planck equation accounts for the slowest relaxation processes, including diffusion of fast ions through and along magnetic surfaces in a tokamak.
