The study of generalized splines, particularly L-splines, has recently been of great interest. For instance these functions are useful for removing some unwanted oscillations due to ''extrameous'' inflection points which appear in the solution of interpolation or approximation problems by means of polynomial splines. It is therefore very important to construct a basis of load support functions for the space of L-splines, i.e. to determine the ''basic L-spline'' (LB-spline). In this paper theoretical and numerical aspects of the methods for the numerical computation of ''basic L-splines'' are evaluated. This analysis has suggested a general algorithm which is based on a recursive type method with left and right one-sided basis of the L-splines.
