This paper is dedicated to the computation of the eigenstates of a three- particle quantum system, although the method employed is generally applicable to higher dimension systems. It is of Ritz type, but the shape functions can be modified in the course of computation. This renders the method enough flexibility and leads to an optimal basis in respect to the accuracy of the computed solution. The variational formulation leads to an algebraic eigenvalue problem of high dimension and possibly ill- conditioning. It is solved by Cholesky decomposition. A numerical example is also discussed.
