This is a short version of a doctoral thesis submitted to the TH Darmstadt. A relaxing, viscous and heat conducting gas in a closed tube is excited by a sinusoidally oscillating piston. Assuming small amplitude oscillation and weak damping, a nonlinear one-dimensional theory is presented to describe the standing wave near the fundamental mode of undamped system. It has been shown that shock waves oscillate in the tube about resonance frequency which depends upon the excitation amplitude and damping frequencies. This work is a good contribution to the theory of nonlinear motion in relaxing gases.
