[For part I see ibid. 36, 317-320 (1982; Zbl 0506.41011).] The paper deals with the uniform approximation of \(e^ x\) on the interval \([- 1,+1]\) by rational functions. Meinardus' conjecture is proved: \(E_{mn}=n!m!/2^{n+m}(n+m)!(n+m+1)!(1+o(1))\). To this end, the previous upper bound [\textit{D. J. Newman}, ibid 27, 284-285 (1979; Zbl 0441.41007)] and the author's lower bound are improved by considering the Padé approximant with a shift. \(\{\) Newman's trick which is crucial in the analysis here was applied to the approximation of \(\sqrt{x}\) in the meantime such that the asymptotic rate can be established via Gauss' arithmetic geometric process.\(\}\)
