A more rigorous derivation for the generalized block pulse operational matrices was proposed in this paper. The Riemann-Liouville fractional integral in the fractional calculus was utilized to derive the generalized block pulse operational matrices. The fundamental philosophy behind this paper is the elegant relationship between Laplace transform and block functions. These generalized block pulse operational matrices perform as \(S^{-\alpha} (\alpha>0\), \(\alpha \in {\mathbb{R}})\) in the Laplace domain and as fractional (and operational) integrators in the time domain. Meanwhile, the fractional (and operational) differentiators associated with the block pulse functions are also derived. Due to the simplicity of block pulse functions, these fractional block pulse integrators and differentiators are computationally feasible, even with the aid of digital computer. As for the applications of these block pulse fractional integrators and differentiators, this paper cited only the inversions of rational and irrational transfer functions. The applications on other distributed systems can also be well explored.
