The author establishes some results concerning the relationship between the derivative of the convolution product in \(R^ 3\) of two isotropic functions, and the convolution product in \(R^ 1\) of two related functions. These results are then applied to study the Percus-Yevick equation, a nonlinear integral equation which arises in the statistical mechanical theory of the structure of liquids. See also \textit{J. K.
