The present paper concerns the determination of the stress-strain field of a solid subjected to locking strains rather than to complete locking. An extremum theorem defining the residual strains which occur in the solid at all stages of deformation has been formulated. Then, on the basis of the theory of duality mathematical models for the determination of residual stresses are derived.
