Let \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}}^ m\) (\(m\geq 3)\) be an open bounded set, with boundary \(\partial \Omega\) belonging to the class \(C^{3,\lambda}\). Denote by Q the cylinder \(\Omega \times(0,T)\), \(T>0\) and consider the equation \[ \sum^{m}_{i,k=1}a_{ik}(x,t)\partial^ 2u/\partial x_ i\partial x_ k+\sum^{m}_{i=1}b_ i(x,t)\partial u/\partial x_ i+c(x,t)u-\partial u/\partial t=f(x,t) \] which is assumed to be uniformly parabolic in Q. The authors consider the solution \(u\in H^{2,1}(Q)\) of the above equation, vanishing on \(\partial \Omega \times(0,T)\) and give sufficient conditions for the square summability of the third derivatives with respect to the space variables (and of the second mixed derivatives). More specifically, interior estimates are obtained when f is assumed to belong to \(L^ 2(0,T;H^ 1(\Omega))\) and the coefficients satisfy suitable regularity conditions. Boundary estimates are also derived (under some more stringent conditions).
