On a property of the norm which is close to locally uniform rotundity (Q797789)

It is well known that on the unit sphere of a locally uniformly rotund Banach space the norm and weak topologies agree and of corse the norm is strictly convex. The converse is not true. However, the main theorem in the paper shows that if the norm in a Banach space X is strictly convex and on the unit sphere the norm and weak topologies coincide then in X exists an equivalent locally uniformly rotund norm.
