    A real function f of a real variable is said to be symmetric (smooth) at x iff \[ \Delta^ 2f(x,h)=f(x+h)+f(x-h)-2f(x)=o(1)(\Delta^ 2f(x,h)=o(h))\quad as\quad h\to 0. \] There are proved the following three theorems: The set of all points of continuity of each real function of a real variable which has the Baire property and which is symmetric on a residual set of points, is residual. No subset of the set of all points of discontinuity of a measurable smooth real function of a real variable is dense in itself. Each subset A of real numbers of which no subset is dense in itself is the set of all points of discontinuity of some non- decreasing and smooth real function of a real variable.
