The solution \(u(x,t)\) of the equation \[ \rho_1u_t + (\rho_2+\rho_3u)u_x + \rho_4u=0,\quad \rho_j(x,t)\in C^{\infty}, \tag{1} \] is called infinitely narrow if \[ u=u_0(x,t)+\sum^M_{j=1} A_j(t)\eta (x-\phi_j(t)), \tag{2} \] where \(u_0,\phi_j\in C^{\infty}\), \(\eta(y)=0\) for \(y\ne 0\), \(\eta(0)=1\). The authors prove that there are solutions \(u_{\varepsilon}\) of the equation (1) with vanishing viscosity right-hand side \(-\varepsilon^2u_{xxx}\) and appropriate initial functions \(u^0_{\varepsilon}(x)\). Making use of explicit formulae for \(u_{\varepsilon}\), one can find the limit of \(u_{\varepsilon}\) for \(\varepsilon \to 0\). This limit is an infinitely narrow solution of (1) and we further obtain Hugoniot-type conditions for \(A_j\), \(\phi_j\) (i.e. \(2M\) conditions which ensure that the function (2) is a solution of equation (1)).
