The author studies the homogenization process for functionals which have the integrand continuous in the space variable x, measurable in the second variable x/\(\epsilon\) and convex in the third variable \(\xi =\text{grad} u\). In the variable \(\xi\) the integrand f satisfies a weaker condition than coercivity. In fact f satisfies only an estimate from above. The homogenization process is studied in the framework of the \(\Gamma\) -convergence theory.
