A class of vacuum spaces (Q798964)

Extending some of his previous results [ibid. 13, 1204-1207 (1984; Zbl 0495.53022)], the author studies vacuum space-times admitting a space-like hypersurface orthogonal Killing vector \(\xi^ a\) whose norm \(\xi\) satisfies \(g^{ij}\xi_{,i}\xi_{,j}=\pm f^ 2(\xi)\). Unlike other methods, a frame of three vectors is introduced and is used to obtain all the possible solutions of such a kind of vacuum field equations. It is shown in particular that only some Petrov type III and D solutions admit this kind of Killing vector.
