In his paper [Yad. Fiz. 33, No.6, 1723-1728 (1981)] the author has given a gauge interpretation of the originally purely geometric approach by \textit{F. Lund} and \textit{T. Regge} [Phys. Rev. D 14, 1524 (1976)] and \textit{R. Omnes} [Nucl. Phys. B 149, 269-284 (1979)] to the relativistic classical string theory in the Minkowski space-time of dimensions \(d=3,4\). Now he proposes a generalization of the theory to the case of an arbitrary d. The string dynamics is then embedded in the equations of motion of a two-dimensional SO(1,1)\(\times SO(d-2)\) gauge model. The number of components of its potential \(\omega^ A_{\mu.B} (A,B=0,1,...,d-1\); \(\mu\) being two-dimensional: \(\mu =\tau,\sigma)\) exceeds that of the Maurer-Cartan structure equations; so a method of successive fixations of gauges is proposed which enables an unambiguous solution for \(\omega^ A_{\mu\cdot B}\). On this way the structure equations are brought into a form of a chain of non-linear equations which reduce themselves to the Liouville equation when \(d=3,4\).
