In this paper a new class of special solutions of the self-dual Yang- Mills equations is discussed. Two methods for constructing these solutions are presented. The first one is an application of algebro- geometric methods developed in soliton theory. The second one uses a matrix which may be considered a representation frame of a moving point in a Grassmann manifold, and translates the original problem into describing the motion of this matrix. The latter construction is in close relationship to \textit{M. Sato}'s description of nonlinear integrable systems [Random systems and dynamical systems, Proc. Symp., Kyoto 1981, RIMS Kokyuroku 439, 30-46 (1981; Zbl 0507.58029); \textit{M. Sato} and \textit{Y. Sato}, Nonlinear partial differential equations in applied science, Proc. U.S.-Jap. Semin., Tokyo 1982, North-Holland Math. Stud. 81, 259-271 (1983; Zbl 0528.58020)].
