The laminar flow regime of an incompressible fluid at the trailing edge of a plate was studied by \textit{K. Stewartson} [Mathematika 16, 106-121 (1969; Zbl 0191.250)] and \textit{A. F. Messiter} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 18, 241-257 (1970; Zbl 0195.277)] by means of the method of matched asymptotic expansions. In the present paper, this method is used to analyze the same problem, but in the case of turbulent flow in the boundary layer and the wake.
