Given a (generally non-crisp) fuzzy subset, \(\mu\), of the Euclidean plane, the notions of intrinsic/extrinsic diameter (\(I(\mu)\),\(E(\mu)\)), height (\(h(\mu)\)), and width (\(w(\mu)\)) are introduced and the following facts are established by the author: (1) \(A(\mu^ 2)\leq h(\mu)w(\mu)\), where A(.) denotes area, (2) \(E(\mu)\geq I(\mu)\) for \(\mu\) being convex, (3) \(I(\mu)\leq (1/2)p(\mu)\) (where \(p(\cdot)\) denotes the perimeter), for \(\mu\) being piecewise constant and convex. The introduced notions (reducible to the ordinary ones when the considered fuzzy subset is crisp) seem to be useful, via these results, in pattern recognition theory.
