Beitrag zu den komplementären Extremumsprinzipien in der nichtlinearen Elastostatik (Q799401)

By a variational method, a simple structure consisting of two elastic rods is analysed. Complementary variational principles are constructed and it is shown that, depending on the parameters of the model, the following situation can occur for the exact solution of the problem: i) the primal functional is maximal, the dual is minimal ii) the primal is minimal, the dual is maximal iii) both primal and dual functionals are minimal. Concluding, we may say that this note nicely illustrates an important point of extremality problems in elastostatics.
