A semi-symmetric design is a square tactical configuration such that any two points are joined by either 0 or \(\lambda\) blocks, and dually [see \textit{D. R. Hughes}, Geometries and groups, Proc. Colloq., Berlin 1981, Lect. Notes Math. 893, 43--67 (1981; Zbl 0479.05006)]. The authors solve the existence problem for two of the smallest parameter sets previously in doubt. Using a computer, they obtained the non-existence of a semi- symmetric design for \((32,6,(1))\) and the uniqueness of that for \((38,9,(2))\).
