Let \(\pi\) be a finite group and \({\mathcal O}\) a maximal order in \({\mathbb{Q}}\pi\) containing \({\mathbb{Z}}\pi\). It is of interest to examine the relation between \(G_ 0({\mathbb{Z}}\pi)\) and \(G_ 0({\mathcal O})\). The description of \(G_ 0({\mathbb{Z}}\pi)\) obtained by \textit{H. Lenstra} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 20, 173-193 (1981; Zbl 0467.16016)] and its generalization in the paper of \textit{M. Miyamoto} [Grothendieck groups of integral nilpotent group rings (preprint)] throw light on the subject for commutative and nilpotent groups \(\pi\), respectively. The author extends these results as follows: Theorem. Let \(\pi\) be a finite group with a normal nilpotent subgroup U which has a complement. Then we have \(G_ 0({\mathbb{Z}}\pi)\cong\otimes_{e\in Y}G_ 0({\mathbb{Z}}\pi e^*[1/d(e)]),\) where Y is a set of representatives of the \(\pi\) -conjugacy classes of centrally primitive idempotents of \({\mathbb{Q}}U\), \(e^*\) denotes the class sum of the class containing e and \(d(e)=| U| /| Ker(U\to {\mathbb{Q}}Ue)|. G_ 0({\mathbb{Z}}\pi)\) is also determined for dihedral and meta-cyclic groups \(\pi\).
