As answer to a question which the author attributes to the reviewer, he proves the following result: Theorem 1. If G is a finite group in which all abnormal nonnilpotent maximal subgroups have the same order then G is solvable. We note that if H is a maximal subgroup in G then H abnormal in G iff H is non-normal in G. This result is a straight consequence of a result of B. Baumann on finite non-solvable groups in which Sylow 2- subgroups are maximal. The author proves also two analogous results.
