For \(\nu\geq 0\), let \(c'\equiv c'(\nu,k,\alpha)\) be the \(k\)th positive zero of \(C'_{\nu}(x)=J'_{\nu}(x)\cos \alpha -Y'_{\nu}(x)\sin \alpha.\) The definition may be extended to certain negative values of \(\nu\) so that the resulting function is continuous in \(\nu\) in its domain of definition. The authors' main result is that c' is a concave function of \(\nu\) on any subinterval of its domain where \(c'>|\nu | (\nu\leq 0),\quad c'>(2\nu)^{1/2}\quad (0<\nu\leq 1/2)\) and \(c'>\nu +1/2\quad (\nu\geq 1/2).\) This includes all the positive zeros of \(J'_{\nu}(x)\) for \(0\leq\nu <\infty.\) The authors' method involves some intricate calculations using an integral formula for \(dc'/d\nu\) given on p. 510 of \textit{G. N. Watson's} Treatise on the theory of Bessel functions (1944). It is stated in the abstract, but not elsewhere in the paper, that c' is a concave function of \(\nu\) for \(c'>|\nu | >0.\)
