The solution of Holt's boundary value problem \[ y''=(2m+1+t^ 2)y,\quad y(0)=\beta,\quad y(L)=0\quad (L>0\quad l\arg e) \] is assumed to satisfy \(y=p_{12}y'+q_ 1\) whereby \((p_{12},q_ 1)\) solves a certain nonlinear initial value problem. If the solution of the latter problem exists it yields the value y'(L). Then the original differential equation is integrated backwards. This procedure is generalized to a class of linear multipoint boundary value problems for systems. In some numerical examples Holt's differential equation is solved for several parameter values.
