The field near the wave front in a Cauchy-Poisson problem (Q800766)

A study is made of the asymptotic behavior of the Green's function of the Cauchy-Poisson problem in the far zone near the wave front, i.e., for \(r\approx c_ 0t\), where \(c_ 0=\sqrt{gH}\) is the maximal group velocity of a surface wave. It is shown that the solution to this problem given in the book by \textit{P. H. LeBlond} and \textit{L. A. Mysak} [Waves in the ocean, Elsevier (1978)] is incorrect, and the correct asymptotic behavior, expressed in terms of the square of an Airy function, is given.
