The author explores a notion of infinite divisibility for Gibbs states which is based on the structure of the configuration space for lattice systems as a direct product of cyclic groups of order two. Many simple examples are given to show that such infinitely divisible measures do exist. Partial solutions to several problems are given. It is shown that infinite divisibility is a sufficient condition for an interesting correlation inequality.
