Synchronization between pseudonoise sequences received in noise and a local generator at the receiver is often achieved passively with either a full or partial correlation technique. All of these techniques use hard decisions on received data to use in the formation of a state estimate. The method introduced in this paper uses soft decisions on data bits and information on the sequence structure to form a state estimate. The method is analyzed and its performance compared with previous methods.
