The following result is proved: Let R be a reduced ring (not necessarily commutative) and let G be an ordered group. If \(a=\sum_{x\in G}a_ xx\) and \(b=\sum_{x\in G}b_ xx\), \(a_ x\) and \(b_ x\in R\) almost all zero, are elements of the group ring RG such that \(ab=0\), then \(a_ xb_ y=0\) holds for all x,y\(\in G\). As a consequence, it follows that RG has no non-trivial idempotents.
