In Rend. Sem. Mat. Padova 65, 163-176 (1981; Zbl 0507.28005), the author of the present paper gave a new definition of measurability for a numerical function, with respect to an algebra of sets. Consequently he proposed also a new definition of integral with respect to a finite measure. Here he studies the connections and the differences between this concepts and the classical ones due to \textit{N. Dunford} and \textit{J. T. Schwartz} [''Linear operators. I.'' (1958; Zbl 0084.104)]. Moreover he proves many interesting properties of his metric spaces \(L^ p\), \(1\leq p\leq +\infty\), and, in particular, gives some conditions which assures their completeness. Finally he observes that \(L^{\infty}\) is always a Banach space while it is not true, in general, for \(L^ p\); but \(L^ p\), \(1\leq p<+\infty\), is a Banach space if it is complete.
