The iterations of the mapping \({\mathcal N}[F(s)]=((F(s))^ 2\)-F(0))\({}^ 2)/s+(F(0))^ 2\) are studied for probability generating functions \(F(s)=\sum a_ ns^ n\), \(a_ n\geq 0\), \(F(1)=1\). It is shown that except for the fixed point \(F(s)=s\), the iterates converge either to 0 for \(| s| <1\) or to 1 for \(| s| \leq 2\). The domains of attraction of both cases are specified. The mapping \({\mathcal N}\) represents the renormalization transformation of a simplified version of a certain spin glass model.
