Let P(x,D) be a differential operator with \(C^{\omega}\) coefficients. Then P is said to be locally approximable at \(x_ 0\) if, for any \({\mathcal D}'\) solution to \(Pu=0\), there exists an open neighborhood U of \(x_ 0\) satisfying the following property: u is approximable by a sequence of solutions which are \(C^{\omega}\) on U. The authors microlocalize this definition using an FBI transformation, and study the local approximability of a class of operators with symplectic characteristics.
