Parameter estimation in a special reaction-diffusion system modelling man-environment diseases (Q803084)

The authors consider a class of reaction-diffusion systems with positive feedback through the boundary which arises from modelling certain man environment epidemics. The feedback happens through a special integral operator. It is the authors' aim to discuss a method for estimating the kernel of this operator. To solve this infinite-dimensional estimation problem by numerical methods a sequence of finite-dimensional problems which approximates the original one is constructed. The results are illustrated by numerical examples.
