In this note A denotes the class of functions of the form \[ f(z)=z+\sum^{\infty}_{n=2}a_ nz^ n, \] which are analytic in the unit disk \(U=\{z:| z| <1\}\). A function f in A is said to be in class S(\(\alpha\)) if \[ \frac{zf'(z)}{f(z)}\prec 1+(1-\alpha)z, \] for some \(\alpha\) \((0\leq \alpha <1)\) and for all z in U, where the symbol \(\prec\) stands for subordination. S(\(\alpha\)) is a subclass of \(S^*(\alpha)\), the class of functions starlike of order \(\alpha\). The author shows that if f is in A and \[ | \beta (\frac{zf'(z)}{f(z)}- 1)+(1-\beta)\frac{z^ 2f''(z)}{f(z)}| <1-\alpha \quad (z\in U), \] for some \(\alpha\) \((0\leq \alpha <1)\), \(\beta\) \((0\leq \beta <1)\), then \(f\in S(\alpha)\).
