The author presents a procedure for the numerical treatment of elliptic pseudodifferential equations on smooth closed curves using the parametrix for the pseudodifferential operators combined with the trigonometric collocation procedure. The algorithm requires O(N\(\cdot \ln N)\) operations to find the N coefficients of the trigonometric polynomial. The asymptotic error estimate obtained is of optimal order in the scale of Sobolev spaces.
