Let \(\sum^{\infty}_{k=1}x_ k\) be a series in a real Banach space X. By SS(\(\sum x_ k)\) (sum-set) we shall denote the set of all \(x\in X\) with the following property: there exists a permutation \(\sigma\) of \({\mathbb{N}}\) such that the series \(\sum^{\infty}_{k=1}x_{\sigma (k)}\) converges to x. Analogously by the weak sum-set WSS(\(\sum x_ k)\) we mean the set of the sums of all weakly convergent rearrangements of the series \(\sum x_ k.\) In the first part of the paper the author constructs an example of series in Hilbert space for which WSS is nonlinear. In the second part of the paper the author develops his technique [Soviet Math. 30, No.12, 43-48 (1986; Zbl 0645.46014)] of transferring examples of series with pathological sum-sets from the Banach space X to the class of Banach spaces whose finite dimensional structure is in certain sense richer than those of X. This allows him to show that in every infinite dimensional Banach space there exists a) non-closed sum-sets [a corresponding example in Hilbert space is constructed by the reviewer, J. Soviet. Math. 48, No.5, 559-566 (1990; Zbl 0714.46013)]. b) nonlinear weak sum-set. For a survey of related results see the author [C. R. Math. Acad. Sci., Soc. R. Can. 11, No.5, 151-164 (1989; Zbl 0693.40003)].
