An almost contact metric manifold \(M\) with structure tensors (\(\phi,\xi,\eta,g)\) satisfying the condition \[ (\nabla_X\phi)Y=g(\phi X,Y)\xi -\eta(Y)\phi(X) \tag{*} \] is known as a Kenmotsu manifold. In sect. 2 (resp. sect. 3) of this paper the authors study curvature properties of a Kenmotsu manifold which is of constant \(\phi\)-holomorphic sectional curvature (resp. projectively flat); finally in sect. 4 a property of the so-called \(\Pi\)-plane field is discussed. In particular the authors give the following results. (a) In a Kenmotsu manifold, the \(\Pi\)-plane field is parallel if \(\phi\) is covariant constant i.e. \(\nabla_X\phi =0\) (cf. Th. 4.2). (b) In a Kenmotsu manifold of constant \(\phi\)-holomorphic sectional curvature: \(\nabla_X\phi \ne 0\) for arbitrary \(X\) (cf. Th. 2.2) and hence the \(\Pi\)-plane field is not parallel (cf. Th. 4.3). Reviewer's remark: In an arbitrary Kenmotsu manifold one obtains \(\nabla_X\phi \ne 0\) (when \(X\ne \xi)\) as an easy consequence of (*).
