Cauchy boundary and b-incompleteness of space-time (Q804983)

The authors propose a new boundary construction for spacetimes which is similar to \textit{B. G. Schmidt}'s b-boundary construction [Gen. Relativ. Gravitation 1, 269-280 (1971; Zbl 0332.53039)]. They show that the orthonormal frame bundle OM is reducible to an O(3)-bundle P, if spacetime is time orientable. They assume then that the connection is reducible to a connection of P and carry out the Schmidt construction for P instead of OM. The boundary and its topology are independent of the choices. It is empty for b-complete spacetimes. They also calculate the boundary for a `cosmic' string on flat background.
