Given a group G of affine motions as an abstract group, can there be nonisomorphic affine metric geometries with G as their group of motions? In other words, is it possible to determine the underlying affine metric geometry from the structure of its group of affine motions? The author investigates these two questions, and he shows that the group G determines the geometry if G belongs to an affine metric geometry of dimension at least 2 and having characteristic not 2. The author gives a counterexample in the case of characteristic 2. The author's proof of the main result is very nicely done, and involves showing that the underlying geometry can be canonically constructed from the group G.
