In the present paper, using the convergence in geometric measure theory, the author shows the compactness of the space of incompressible stable minimal surfaces of a fixed topological type. Let M be a 2-dimensional compact smooth connected surface without boundary and N be a 3- dimensional smooth Riemannian manifold without boundary (or with convex boundary). For \(f\in C^{\infty}(M,N)\), f is said to be incompressible iff (i) \(f_{\#}: \pi_ 1(M)\to \pi_ 1(N)\) is injective in case \(g>0\), or (ii) f is homotopically non-trivial in case \(g=0\), where g is the genus of M. Set \({\mathcal F}=\{f\in C^{\infty}(M,N)\), incompressible\(\}\) /\(\sim\), where \(f_ 1\sim f_ 2\) iff there exists a diffeomorphism of M such that \(f_ 1=f_ 2g\). Let [f] be the equivalence class containing f and area[f] be the area of [f]. The main result is the following; For any constant \(C>0\), the space of incompressible stable minimal maps of the area \(\leq\) C \(\{\) [f]\(\in {\mathcal F}\); \(stable\) minimal in \({\mathcal F}\), \(area[f]\leq C\}\) is compact.
