The authors introduce the concept of S-continuous mapping from general systems into general systems thus showing that continuity in general systems theory is possible to be studied without using any topological concept. The S-continuity can be seen as a generalization of the concepts of continuous mappings in topology, of homomorphisms in algebra etc.. Properties of S-continuous mappings, construction of S-continuous mappings and hierarchies of systems with S-continuous linkage mappings as well as the controllability of the preimage of a controllable system are studied.
