The paper addresses the problem of fixed modes in decentralized linear control systems. It was shown by \textit{S. H. Wang} and \textit{E. Davison} [IEEE Trans. Automatic Control, Vol. AC-18, 473-478 (1973; Zbl 0273.93047)] that a decentralized control system cannot be stabilized unless the set of decentralized fixed modes is stable. The authors propose a way out of this dilemma. They achieve elimination of an undesired fixed mode by allowing exchange of outputs between control stations. The procedure is based on parametric sensitivity of eigenvalues. A criterion is given which assists in selecting the information to be exchanged between control stations.
