The author and others have long been studying the problem of finding ``proper'' topologies on the torsion-theoretic spectrum R-sp of a noncommutative ring R, which will play a role similar to that of the Zarisky topology in the spectrum of a commutative ring. Several possibilities have been considered through the years and some of these were used as the first step towards the definition of a ``noncommutative Algebraic Geometry'' by constructing structure sheaves over the spectra of noncommutative rings. In this paper a recent approach of Kopperman's (which he used to show that all topological spaces can be considered as generalized metric spaces) is applied to the torsion theoretic spectrum R-sp of a noncommutative ring R. A dual metric on R-sp, where R is an associative ring with unit, is first constructed and this is used to construct a topology on R-sp. The topology is called the Y-order topology, where Y is a nonempty subset of R-tors closed under taking finite joins, and it turns out that several particular Y-order topologies were studied by the author in earlier papers. The potentialities presented in these papers are thus further enlarged.
