The purpose of this paper is to give an example of a Schottky group which is not classical. In this context a Schottky group is one which is constructed by pairing 2p \((p>1)\) Jordan curves by loxodromic transformations; such a group is called classical if the curves can be chosen to be circles. The existence of non-classical groups was shown by A. Marden. An earlier attempt by R. Zarrow to construct an example of a non-classical example of Schottky group has shown to be erroneous by H. Sato. Here the author gives, by a deformation argument, an example of a non-classical Schottky group with \(p=2\).
